Simple Ways to Make Your uPVC Door More Secure
With years of experience under our belts, we know what works when it comes to keeping properties safe. uPVC doors are found in homes all over the UK, and we’re often asked how to make them more secure. Below, we’ve shared a few tried-and-tested tips that can help protect your door and give you a little more peace of mind.
Here are some of the most effective ways to boost the security of your uPVC door:
- Anti-snap locks
- Stronger door handles
- Sash jammers
- Hinge bolts
- Door chains
Anti-snap Locks
If there’s one upgrade we always recommend, it’s an anti-snap lock. These are specially designed to stop a common break-in technique called lock snapping. Burglars look for weak spots, and this type of lock helps take that option off the table.
When choosing one, look for either a TS007 3 Star or an SS312 Diamond-rated lock. Both meet high security standards and offer solid protection.
High-security Door Handles
Upgrading the handle might not be the first thing that springs to mind, but it makes a big difference. A good-quality handle can help protect the lock cylinder itself and often comes tested against forced entry methods. They’re thicker, tougher, and a lot more secure than standard handles.
Sash Jammers
Sash jammers are simple but effective. They work by stopping the door from opening, even if someone manages to get past the main lock. They don’t cost a fortune and are fairly quick to fit, making them a popular choice for added security. You can get versions that lock or ones that simply act as a physical block.
Hinge Bolts
If your uPVC door opens outwards, it’s worth fitting hinge bolts. These small but strong additions help stop the door from being forced open at the hinge side. They’re discreet, easy to install, and help secure a part of the door that’s often overlooked.
Door Chains
A door chain gives you a chance to see who’s calling before you fully open up. There are plenty of options that work well with uPVC doors, and they’re especially handy for those living alone or wanting that extra layer of caution.
That said, we always recommend using a chain alongside other measures, not instead of them.
